Full Mouth Reconstruction
What Is Full Mouth Reconstruction?
Full mouth reconstruction is a process where your dentist will remove any old dental work you have had done, such as fillings, veneers, crowns, etc., and replace them with new dental work that will improve your overall bite as well as your overall oral health. There are a number of approaches and treatment options we use to ensure a beautiful result following a full mouth reconstruction, including dental implants, gum therapy, braces, and more.
At River’s Bend Family Dentistry, we are committed to providing our patients with the care and support they need. If you have any questions about the services we offer or would like to schedule an appointment to have a procedure performed, please contact our knowledgeable staff. We are proud to provide one-of-a-kind personalized care that is tailored to your unique needs.
Examples of Full Mouth Reconstruction
At River’s Bend, we offer a wide range of dental procedures that we can tailor to your individual needs, including, but not limited to, the following:
Gum Therapy: To prepare for any invasive or non-invasive dental treatment, it is not uncommon for patients to undergo a series of gum therapy treatments. This process involves scaling teeth to remove any infections or bacteria from the area. It can take a couple of visits to complete, but it may be a necessary step in the full mouth reconstruction process.
River’s Bend Family Dental provides a wide range of dental procedures to make it convenient for your family to tend to all its dental needs.
Bone Grafting: Your dentist will perform a dental bone graft if your tooth or teeth have been missing for an extended period of time or if there is insufficient bone remaining to support an implant. When an individual allows for a missing tooth to remain for a long enough time, there is a greater risk for the jawbone to begin deteriorating. If the replacement takes place early enough, it may be possible to replace the bone tissue that has been lost with a dental bone graft, but this is never guaranteed. If your dentist suggests that your best course of action is to have a dental bone graft, they will use bone or synthetic material to encourage the growth of bone tissue in the area or areas where the loss has occurred. Many patients prefer the use of synthetic materials. However, the use of an actual bone (either human or animal) is also an option. If your preference is to use an actual bone, the donated bone will go through an extensive disinfectant process to prepare it for placement.
Dental Crowns: Dental Crowns are a method of filling gaps with a tooth-shaped cap that is placed on top of a tooth or teeth when this area becomes damaged or decayed. The crown then protects the remaining tooth structure. It will improve your overall oral hygiene, and it will help you chew and bite better, which in turn improves other systems in the body, such as your digestive system. Crowns are typically shaded to match the current color of your surrounding teeth. We will discuss all dental cosmetic options with you to make sure the functionality and appearance of your smile are in top notch shape.
Dental Implants: Dental implants are designed to allow patients to complete their smile and begin chewing and biting like they used to. Dental implants also help maintain the integrity of the jawbone and actively save the jaw from additional bone loss. Dental implants are surgically positioned titanium posts that are placed beneath the gum line that allow your dentist to set replacement teeth or a bridge. They are made from titanium, which is the only metal capable of grafting with human bone.
Root Canals: Although they have a bad reputation, root canals are often the easiest way to save your tooth from having to be removed. Your dentist will remove the injured pulp. Once this is completed, they will disinfect the system. After the inside of the tooth has been cleaned and filled, a filling or crown will be placed to act as a seal and also to prevent further infection.

Full Mouth Aftercare
Following your full mouth reconstruction procedures, it will take some time for you to adjust to the feel of your new bite. Generally, you will grow accustomed to the new feel after several days, but if you continue to experience issues, please contact our staff.
Depending on the extent of the work you have done, it is not uncommon to feel sensitivity to hot or cold beverages. It may also take a few days for your gums and teeth to heal and lose their sensitivity. If necessary, you may look into mild pain medication to help relieve any initial discomfort you are feeling. Once you have fully recovered from your surgery, you probably won’t need to make significant changes to your diet or eating habits. However, it’s important to maintain good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing at least twice daily and scheduling regular dentist appointments every six months.
Associated Costs
As is the case with most dental procedures, what and how much of your procedure will be covered will ultimately be determined by what type of procedure or procedures you need to have performed and your specific insurance plan. Still, many insurance plans cover some full mouth reconstruction procedures, although they may not cover the entire cost. If you are not currently covered by an insurance plan, or if you have any questions about payment options, please contact our staff who will be happy to discuss your options with you.
